View New Zealand through the eyes of some of the actors from the Lord of the Rings.
Quotes from the crew and the actors regarding New Zealand:
When one sees Castle Hill, normally one doesn't instantly think of hobbits, but The Lord of the Rings' director, Peter Jackson, says he definitely sees the South Island as Middle-earth.
"That's why we did so much filming there. With its variety of magnificent scenery, any filmmaker would put the South Island on the top of his list for shooting Tolkien's tale/ Middle-earth is not another planet, but a prehistoric, unspoiled Europe, before man became dominant. Much of the South Island is like that." - Peter Jackson, Director
"This is Middle-earth. I mean, it has every sort of geographical, geological formation and landscape; it's got everything. So its absolutely perfect." - Elijah Wood, Frodo

Climate and Season of Travel
New Zealand has a moderate climate. In the Southern Hemisphere it is Springtime between September and November; Summer starts in December and goes until February. Autumn starts in March and finishes in May and from June to August it is Wintertime. New Zealand is the perfect destination all year round. If you plan to travel in Spring or the beginning of Autumn you will be able to enjoy the magnificent colourful vegetation as well as extraordinary landscapes. You have sunny, beautiful days with perfect lighting conditions to take photos. Enjoy lots of opportunities to go swimming in the summer.
What to bring
Even if you plan to travel in the Summer we advise you to bring a windbreaker, breathable rainwear and warm jackets or sweater for chilly nights. It's best to wear comfortable and casual clothes in New Zealand. Expect changeable weather conditions with New Zealand's geographical position being between the Equator and the South pole.
You need comfortable walking shoes and sandals. Don't forget to bring sunglasses, a sunhat, your bathing suit and sunscreen with a high SPF. Avoid hardtop cases and choose alternative travel bags instead. A small backpack as a daypack is quite practical.
Photographers will find many motives and since films are rather expensive in New Zealand it's worth bringing them with you from home. With extreme lighting conditions it's useful to have a UV filter. The South Islands West coast is often cloudy and you might have to use film that is more sensitive to light.

The New Zealand Dollar is the common currency. In new Zealand it is quite common to pay even in small shops by credit card all major cards are accepted i.e. MasterCard, Visa. Most hotels and banks exchange traveller cheques. Euro cheques not accepted anywhere.
